Alexa Vazquez

Born and raised in Chula Vista, I’m a Mexican-American journalist who began covering K-12 education across San Diego’s South County during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While attending UC Berkeley, I covered federal investigations into higher education and million-dollar cuts to science research for the university’s newspaper, The Daily Californian. I also reported on San Diego’s arts and entertainment scene for The Times of San Diego.

I’m drawn to stories that follow everyday people as they grapple with the local impacts of government policy, with a particular focus on how our education system is shaping the futures of students across California.
