Alonso Daboub
Santa Cruz Local
Before becoming a journalist, Alonso Daboub was a scientist. Seeing the challenge of bringing discoveries out of academia and into the hands of those who need them, he turned to science journalism — reporting as an AAAS Mass Media Fellow and earning a Master's in Science Communication at UCSC while simultaneously reporting with KQED. The son of Peruvian-Mexican parents, Daboub is passionate about covering the intersections of healthcare, climate resiliency, and policy, especially within Latino communities. He's joining the team at Santa Cruz Local, where he hopes to continue reporting on health and climate.
