Gabriela Calvillo-Alvarez
I am a print and online journalist born and raised in the Bay Area. My passion for journalism stems from wanting to be a part of something bigger than myself. As an East Bay native, I have witnessed firsthand the long-term impact limited news coverage within a community has on its residents. This experience, coupled with my intersectional identity, has led me to pursue this career path on a local scale.
Previously, I was editor-in-chief of Golden Gate Xpress, the student newspaper of San Francisco State University. I’ve also contributed to The Stanford Daily, reported on Ukrainian refugees while studying abroad in France and helped produce KQED’s “Future of the Bay” for an SF State Audio Journalism Class.
