The LA Local
I'm a multimedia journalist from Chicago, now based in Los Angeles. Growing up in a working class Latino neighborhood, I witnessed a disconnect between how vulnerable communities can be depicted in mainstream media and what it’s like to actually be from one. I became a journalist because I wanted to help bridge this gap by telling stories that aren't just factually accurate but that are also historically contextual and fueled by deep community listening and collaboration.
Throughout my career, I've covered a range of topics, including gun violence, housing, immigration, and arts and culture. My work has appeared in the Washington Post, Mother Jones magazine, and the Chicago Sun Times, among others.
